Amanda Palmer

She's my favorite singer after Courtney Love. I don't have words to tell how much her music inspires me. She's definetely my soul mate, my alter ego and my voice. Who killed Amanda Palmer? I killed her. I killed her with all feelings inside my heart.
Amanda Palmer is a performer most noted for being the lead singer, pianist, and lyricist/composer of the "Brechtian punk cabaret" duo The Dresden Dolls.
The album "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" was released on 16 September 2008. Ben Folds produced and also played on the album. The title is a play on an expression used by fans during Twin Peaks' original run, "Who killed Laura Palmer?" A companion book of photos of Amanda looking as if she were murdered was released in July 2009 featuring photography by Kyle Cassidy and accompanying writing by Neil Gaiman.

Au Revoir Simone

Au Revoir Simone is an electronic indie band from New York, formed in late 2003.
Their music has been described as "melody laden loveliness" by Q Magazine. David Lynch called their music "innocent, hip and new". Spin also gave a review of the group: "Powered by vintage keyboards, a lockstep beat-box, and gorgeous, wide-eyed warbling, the Simones create make-out music for your inner android." Au Revoir Simone's songs appear in TV such as "Another Likely Story" which was featured on the 100th episode of Grey's Anatomy and in 2009, the song "The Lucky One" was the closing song in Season 3 Episode 12 of Ugly Betty.
The group is composed of Erika Forster (vocals/keyboard), Annie Hart (vocals/keyboard) and Heather D'Angelo (vocals/drum machine/keyboard).

Plants and Animals

This is not a "hippie band"! I swear! I like to listen Plants and Animals when I'm driving and I need to relax, because the traffic is awful and I don't have any patience to deal with it.
Plants and Animals are a Canadian Indie band from Montreal. Their first full-length album, "Parc Avenue", was shortlisted for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize and nominated for a 2009 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. Plants and Animals were also given a 2009 Juno nomination for Best New Band.

Ida Maria

She's not the queen of the world, but she's almost there. Ida Maria is from Norway, but her music gained considerable success in UK. When I was listening her debut album "Fortress Round My Heart"(2008) I felt the punk energy dealing with her girly side... It's so HOT.
Having performed at various festivals, including Reading, and being nominated for Best Rock/Indie Artist category at the BT Digital Music Awards 2008, Ida Maria has toured in Scandinavia, UK, USA and Australia. Her song "Keep Me Warm" was featured in the season 4 finale of the ABC drama Grey's Anatomy.

House of Brothers

Do you like folk? So, you will like House of Brothers. This an unknown english band founded by Andrew Jackson. It was originally a solo project by him, whose first EP Deadman was released in 2007. But it's almost impossible to find this EP for download and if you want to buy, there is only one site for it: here.

Best Songs: "Lose Yourself", "Deadman", "That's me in the photograph".

(This is not the EP Deadman. These songs are b-sides and singles)

of Montreal

If you don't have an open mind, please, don't download this album or I know you will hate my blog forever. "Skeletal Lamping" is weird, confused and gay. It's a pretty schizophrenic album, you can feel Georgie Fruit! He is the name of Kevin Barnes' African-American cross-dressing stage persona, basically his alter ego. Barnes himself has described the album as a concept album, 'detailing his transformation from Kevin Barnes into Georgie Fruit.

Best Songs
: "Nonpareil of Favor", "Gallery Piece", "An Eluardian Instance", "St. Exquisite's Confessions".

Alice in Chains

Grunge, definitely, is not dead and I'm feeling young again. The new Alice in Chains album "Black Gives Way to Blue" is a 90's revival and I have no doubt about it. I entered in a time machine and I don't want go back to the "hip hop pop shit" era. William DuVall is the new lead singer and rhythm guitarist following the death of the band's former lead singer. He's singing so well and sometimes when I'm listening the new album I think Layne Staley is not dead and everything is okay.
"The fact that Alice in Chains still sound like Alice in Chains means that Staley’s tainted talent will never be forgotten. Every single one of their fans from a decade ago should be able to slip seamlessly back into the routine of this fantastic band. Despite the most monumental of obstacles, Black Gives Way to Blue is an overwhelming success." BBC review

Matt and Kim

Do you like to run around naked in public without worry about people? Well, if you like this happy sensation you will love to listen this indie duo from Brooklyn(NY). I'm telling it because when I listened "daylight" for the first time I felt a "weird kind of happiness"! In my mind I was saying "hi" and laughing for unknown people on street. Ok, I'm not used to think about it. It was weird, but nice.
The group was formed in 2004 by Matt Johnson (vocals/keyboards) and Kim Schifino (drums/vocals). The album "Grand" was released in January 2009 and is very "happy" for my infinite sadness, but sometimes is good, VERY GOOD.

Best Songs: "Daylight", "Cutdown", "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare" and "Turn This Boat Around".

Ladyhawke

Phillipa Brown from New Zealand is Ladyhawke. She's a multi-instrumentist and singer /songwriter. Before assuming the name Ladyhawke, she formed the band Teenager and Empire of the Sun. She named herself after watch the movie Ladyhawke(1985). Her debut album, self titled, is full of energy and you can feel the 80's influence. Her track "Paris is Burning" was used in Chanel and Topshop runway shows in 2008. Phillipa started Ladyhawke out of a desire to do her own project where she could completely express herself in any way she wanted.

The Bird and The Bee

Inara George is The Bird and Greg Kurstin is The Bee.. No, you're not in 60's! It's an actual band, but the "love atmosphere" makes you feel you are in an old romantic movie... The duo is from Los Angeles and Greg Kurst is a producer/keyboardist who has worked with Lilly Allen and many other artists. So he knows what he's doing.
The debut album, self-titled, is so well done and perfect that's very hard (these days) to find a band we can listen all album without skipping tracks. If you like fairy tale you will definetely enjoy this album.
The single "Again & Again" was heard twice on the ABC drama Grey's Anatomy, and was a great help for this band! Many people that i know, discovered The Bird And The Bee because of it. The band appeared repeatedly in TV and movies during 2008 too, with "Fucking Boyfriend" appearing in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall and "How Deep Is Your Love" included in Sex and the City: The Movie.

Best Songs: "Again & Again", "Fucking Boyfriend", "I'm a Broken Heart", "My Fair Lady" and " I Hate Camera".

Florence and The Machine

Who's Florence and WTF is The Machine? Okay, I thought about it when my friend Adam Simon introduced me this singer. Florence is an artist, completely artist.. She's is an art-college dropout from Camberwell, London and her videos are nonsense. The Machine are artists who provide backing music for her voice. Florence was discovered singing Motown covers in a nightclub toilet, she was insane and drunk -> It was so "high school", but I like it.
Oh, I listened her album "Lungs (2009)" and she fucked my heart in so many pieces. I'm in love. I love the way she's intense and talks about relations without any fear.
The debut single was "Kiss with a Fist". The song was used in the soundtrack of film Jennifer's Body.

Best Songs: "Dog Days Are Over", "Rabbit Heart", "I'm Not Calling You A Liar", "Howl", "Kiss With A Fist" and "My Boy Builds Coffins".

Metric

Do you want to turn on the radio and start to dance frenetically around your living room? So, let me introduce Metric. This is a new wave/indie rock band that was formed in 1998 in New York City, United States. They are currently based in Canada. Emily Haines is the heart of Metric, she's also perform with Broken Social Scene and released a solo album under the name Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton.
They new album "
Fantasies (2009)" is the long awaited follow up album to 2005's "Live It Out". I wasn't a big fan of Metric before, but Emiliy Haines and her band really grow up in this new record. A strong indie rock album with little electronic touches. 5 Stars.

"Help I'm Alive", "Sick Muse", "Satellite Mind"and "Gimme Sympathy".

Death Cab For Cutie

What should I say about Death Cab For Cutie? Sometimes I don't have words to describe what this band represent in my actual life. Well, you know.. You are alone at home, working in your pc and you really need good music to improve your moment there.. So, Death Cab is THE BAND!! I always feel good when I'm listening Ben Gibbard and his brain talking softly with my soul.
For me the best album of this band is "something about airplanes (1998)", 'cause the best songs are there! I don't know what Ben did when he wrote these songs, but I really liked.

Best Songs: "Fake Frowns", "Amputations", "Pictures in a Exhibition", "President of What?" and "Champagne From a Paper Cut".
